“Field Trip started out in 2015 as a fun justification to use everything available take the entire vineyards harvest and create a terroir driven field blend, but now, it’s taken on a entirely new life of it’s own, and qualitatively has become quite the bad ass”

Purpose

The opportunities to make great wines through blending varietals are endless. Field Trip has evolved significantly since the first vintage, a delectable Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec cuvee in 2015. Today we strive to make the best red wine of the vintage, utilizing several Bordeaux varietals and Petite Sirah that we harvest annually. The barrel program has become just as varied, from French, Slavonian and American oak, each of which impart specific nuances, creating a complex, deeply layered wine

Production

Grapes for Field Trip were harvested between Sept 7th and 16th, 2021. Each varietal is vinified and aged separately, with specific barrel programs that we’ve learned to appreciate over the years. Initial blending took place in February 2023 with the final cuvee determined in June. The wine was bottled unfiltered on July 18th, 2023.

Tasting Notes

This vintage of our proprietary red blend is quite generous. Dark as a cloudy night in the vineyard, lush aromatics of blackberry compote, sweet spiced oak, fig and leather. In the mouth, silky Bordeaux varietals mingle with robust Petite Sirah, unveiling a complex panoply of blackberry pie, baked cherry, and graham cracker, wrapped up with beautiful toasty oak, finishing with notes of anise and iron on the long finish.
